"Simply Routine"

It had been three days since it happened and still
Will's head was
spinning. How something that started out so innocent
could become so
... intense, was beyond him. But it had.
Consequently he couldn't get
her out of his head. For the first time in years.

It had started out innocent enough. A routine
function. Old friends laughing and joking. Being
the friends and officers they had been for years now.

She had been circulating about the room greeting the
delegates. Doing what she did best – making everyone
feel at home, even when home was miles away. Maybe
her laugh was a little lighter, maybe her smile a
little brighter but who really knew.

He had been lost in discussion with the leader of the
planet they were visiting. Being the officer he was,
doing what he did best. Maybe he noticed that the
stars seemed a little brighter, his job a little more
enjoyable but it could have been an illusion.

**"I've got a funny feeling
The moment that your lips touched mine
Something shot right through me
My heart skipped a beat in time
There's a different feel about you tonight
It's got me thinking lots of crazy things
I think I even saw a flash of light
It felt like electricity"**

The song was an innocent one, but a familiar one to
them both. When their eyes met across the room it was
almost magnetic. The question was asked and answered
without a word being spoken. When they met in the
middle of the room he pulled her into his arms without
protest.

Maybe he held her a little closer, maybe she smiled
that secret smile, maybe they were being the best
friends that they were.

He kissed her head at a fond moment in the song. She
smiled and used her hand on his neck to pull his lips
to hers. The kiss was an innocent one as well, the
kiss of best friends who knew what it was to be
lovers. But still innocent until it wasn’t at all.

**"You shouldn't kiss me like this unless you mean it
like that
Cause I'll just close my eyes and I won't know where
I'm at
We'll get lost on this dance floor spinning around
And around and around and around
They're all watching us now they think we're falling
in love
They'd never believe we're just friends
When you kiss me like this I think you mean it like
that
If you do baby kiss me again"**

It happened in a moment. Their breath shared, the
kiss growing deeper by the moment, but only they knew.
Maybe those that watched noticed something more
intense between them. Maybe they exchanged knowing
looks saying it was about time. Maybe they looked at
it as if nothing new.

**"Everybody swears we'd make a perfect pair
But dancing is as far as it goes
Girl you've never moved me quite the way you moved me
tonight
I just wanted you to know
I just wanted you to know"**

The look they shared when they broke apart nearly
brought him to his knees. When did that look return
to her eyes? When did her smile look that bright?

What she saw in his eyes, he couldn't say, his head
was spinning. Perhaps she saw only his confusion.
Perhaps that was why she hugged him close once more as
the song drew to a close and then walked from the
room. Still with that smile on her face and in her
eyes.

It had been three days and yet…

He knew who it was, who it had to be, as soon as the
chime on his door
sounded. He knew because it could be no one else.
Even more than that
though, he "felt" her. More than he had in more years
than he could
count. As he walked to the door he felt an
uncontrolable grin come to
his face. Maybe it was finally time.

The door opened silently. As they stood there facing
each other, a
similar grin found it's way to Deanna's face.

"Hi" she said softly.

"Hello," he replied in just the same manner.

**"When you kiss me like this I think you mean it like
that
If you do baby kiss me again"**
